Group Biography
The Tempest Saxophone Quartet formed at the Royal College of Music in 2001. They have given numerous concerts throughout the country, including performances in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room, London. In the past their concerts have taken them to locations as diverse as the Natural History Museum and Buckingham Palace. In 2002 they performed at the Seventh British Saxophone Congress in Cardiff, and also studied with renowned French saxophonist Jean-Yves Fourmeau and his quartet on a saxophone course in Paris. In 2003 they were invited to give the British Premier of Dave Hunt's Metropolis as part of "City Showcase", London, which highlights emerging artists and composers.
The quartet has also been successful in competitions, winning the Royal College of Music's Wind Ensemble Prize in 2002. They have twice been finalists in the Royal Overseas League competition, winning the Elias Fawcett Award for an "outstanding ensemble" in 2003.
In January 2004 the quartet made their Purcell Room debut as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artist Series. They are members of the Live Music Now! scheme founded by Sir Yehudi Menuhin, which takes professional musicians into the community. The quartet are currently combining educational work and concerts throughout the U.K during 2005. |
